As for the terminology, my daughter actually got really upset at that ad as well, because she thought they called Jewel “cool skin girl” or something like that (I haven’t seen the ad in question, she just told me about it) but then she saw it again and said that’s not actually what they said so she calmed down a bit. This Disney Princess Rainbow Collection doll set features 6 favorite Disney. Perhaps it was meant to look like a kimono shortened to a mini, but I actually didn’t get that impression, it seemed that the belt was used as an accent instead of in the traditional sense (and again, I can’t speak to whether that’s offensive or not as I am not Japanese)īut as for it being a true kimono that they’ve shortened to a mini, I don’t believe that is the case or the intention. I would like to preface this with the fact that I am not Japanese so I cannot speak to the offensive part as I am not part of that culture or people, but I would like to point out that her outfit isn’t really a kimono, it’s a wrap top, mini skirt, and the obi belt (I hope that’s the right term, I know there’s a couple different ones 😬) that goes over the top and mini.
